Just last week we posted a quiz ‘Do Your Kids Have Too Many Toys?’ and most of you ranked somewhere between at risk of a toy takeover to full blown catastrophic status. Now we are helping you breath new life into those unwanted toys.
To clarify, we at Kids Can Give Too are not “Toy Haters.” We just want kids to LOVE and appreciate the things that they have (and the things they receive as gifts) which is why we created Kids Can Give Too but since we are talking toys and a common household problem of simply having too many, let us help with the solution.
The following 14 places are “worthy causes” where you can look to donate your unwanted toys.
- Children’s Homes or Shelters
- Women’s Shelters (especially ones that cater to young moms)
- Children’s Hospitals
- Playgrounds
- Nurseries
- Day Cares
- Playgroups
- Special Needs Schools
- Social Services
- Local Churches
- Ronald McDonald Houses (Find Your Local Chapter)
- SecondChanceToys.org
- Goodwill (store locator)
- The Salvation Army
Here are 6 more options if you have some extra toys and want to turn them into cash.
- EBay
- Craigslist
- Facebook “For Sale” pages
- Yard Sales
- Online Toy Rental Companies (yes you can rent out those unwanted toys)
- Host a Toy Swap Party
Donating unwanted toys is an excellent way to start a conversation about giving with your kids. You may even want to consider adding a charity “twist” to your future birthday parties to cut back on the amount of unwanted toys that come into your home. Kids Can Give Too, charity birthday parties allow kids to collect monetary donations and share half with a charity, allowing them a percentage to buy a meaningful gift…something they really love. How It Works
But for now, here’s to finding those old toys new homes!
