Lucy’s Love Bus is a charity that does this and that.
Lucy Grogan was 8-years-old when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Throughout Lucy’s long illness, concerned individuals like you raised money to help support Lucy. Lucy learned about the benefits of integrative therapies such as massage, acupuncture, art therapy, and therapeutic horseback riding during her treatment.
When Lucy was 11 she told her mother that when she was “done with cancer” she wanted to start a program that would provide free integrative therapies to all children with cancer to help manage the side effects and late effects of traditional cancer treatment. Since 2006, our generous supporters have helped us deliver love and comfort to over 750 children with cancer all over the United States.
Lucy named her organization Lucy’s Love Bus, because she wanted to deliver love, comfort and quality of life to children with cancer. She felt that cure was very important, but recognized that no one was addressing the immediate suffering that she and her friends faced every day. Lucy’s primary concern was to deliver comfort… until a cure. Lucy passed away only six months later, but her legacy of care and compassion live on through Lucy’s Love Bus.
Kids get to use their Visa gift card to pick out exactly what they want for their birthday. And since the average party collects about 300 bucks, that's a lot of dough for a kid. Plus, kids get that unique feeling of pride and joy that you can only experience as a result of helping animals in need.
Parents of the birthday kid love to be able to provide a real-life lesson in giving and the importance of being charitable. Parents love that their kids get to experience the fun and fellowship of a birthday party without having to deal with the massive amount of unwanted, unneeded and often duplicated presents (NO MORE STUFF).
